The Hashemite kingdom of Jordan is located in Middle East; the bordering Countries are Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Palestine. The territory of Jordan covers about 92,300 km². Amman is the capital, more than 2 million people live there. The Jordanian Government is a constitutional hereditary monarchy.

Jordan is landlocked except at its southern extremity, where nearly 26 km of shoreline along the Gulf of Aqaba provide access to the Red Sea. A great north-south geological rift, forming the depression of Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee), the Jordan Valley, and the Dead Sea, is the dominant topographical feature.

The vast majority of Jordan, east of the Mountain Heights plateau and constituting 75% of Jordan’s landmass, is made up of desert. This is known as the Badia region, the semi-arid and arid ecological zone of sands and rocks that’s stretches across the eastern part of Jordan and extends south into Saudi Arabia, east into Iraq and north into Syria.

Weather

The major characteristic of the climate in Jordan is the contrast between a relatively rainy season from November to April and very dry weather for the rest of the year.

Jordanian Money and currency

The Jordanian Dinar is the official currency of Jordan. Jordanian Dinar (JOD) = 100 piastres or 1000 fils. Notes are in denominations of Notes are in JD50, 20, 10, 5, 1 & 500 fils. Coins are in denominations of JD1, 1/2 and 1/4, and 10, 5, 2 & 1/2 piastres and 1 and 1/2 qirsh.

Jordanian Language

Jordan’s official language is Arabic, but Spoken Arabic varies a great deal, so much, that Arabic speakers in Jordan may not understand Arabic speakers in Egypt, for example. English is also understood, particularly in Amman and the main tourist areas of Jordan.

Night life

All over Jordan, you will find so many things to do, see and experience, you may not have enough time to do everything. Jordan is full of interesting places, where one can easily pass many hours enjoying the entertainment that can be found in Jordan.

There are also a wide range of bars and clubs all over Jordan. Amman and tourist resorts in Jordan have some of the most popular clubs in the country. Whatever type of bar or club you are looking for, you will find it in Jordan.
